OUR INSPIRATION
Whitney Rydbeck (1945-2024) was a beloved and prolific American actor whose versatile career spanned over five decades across television, film, and the stage. With a warm presence and sharp comedic timing, he became a familiar face on screens large and small, gracing iconic series like Star Trek: The Next Generation, Scrubs, and 7th Heaven, and films such as A Very Brady Sequel and Friday the 13th Part VI: Jason Lives.
A generation of children grew up with him as the charming host of his own show, Whitney and the Robot, while his parallel passion for the physical art of mime showcased the depth of his performance skills. Beyond his on-camera work, Whitney was a deeply respected acting teacher and director, dedicating himself to mentoring emerging artists with generosity, integrity, and a wonderful sense of humor. ELIGIBILITY
EDUCATIONAL PATHWAYS
Applicants must be a graduating high school senior, current undergraduate, or incoming student at one of the following institutions: Pasadena High School, Pasadena City College, California State University, Fullerton, California State University, Los Angeles.
ACADEMIC STANDING
A minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 is required for all prospective applicants.
CAREER AMBITION
Applicants must be pursuing further education or a career in the performing arts. We celebrate all roles in the arts, welcoming applications from those interested in both on-stage and behind-the-scenes disciplines, including performance, design, technical production, and direction.
PERSONAL STATEMENT
Applicants must share their story through a personal essay, submitted in either written (500-750 words) or video (2-3 minute) format. We're eager to learn about your passion for the arts, your personal journey, and how this scholarship will help you achieve your goals.
